Our Story

Love waits...

In 2009, Darling and Dennis met at Martin Luther King High school. She was on her first teaching assignment and he was school Police. Their first meeting wasn’t dramatic nor was it planned. A simple hello in the hallway, a conversation between a new teacher and the school officer. Over time, small conversations turned into longer ones. Smiles lingered a little longer. There was an easy connection between them — respect, admiration, and a quiet curiosity about each other.

Darling and Dennis became each other’s constants. They became good friends who shared memories of watching movies, late-night conversations, and inside jokes. As their relationship progressed, they shared children, family celebrations and some of life’s greatest pitfalls. Although love can be constant, hopeful and pregnant with so many possibilities. Life and its’ circumstances had an unexpected agenda for them. After years of spending time together and learning so much about one another, Darling and Dennis let each other go with heavy hearts.

They grew individually in ways they never imagined. They learned hard lessons, faced heartbreak, celebrated wins, and slowly became the people they were meant to be. Ten years had passed. Ten years of separate lives, separate journeys, and separate stories. Yet somehow, neither Darling nor Dennis ever truly erased the memory of what they once had.

One ordinary day, Darling did something simple, but brave. She reached out to Dennis on Facebook. A simple message quickly turned into conversation over the phone. Phone conversations turned into laughter that felt familiar — like no time had passed at all. After a few days of chatting over the phone, they decided to meet at a small African Restaurant.

The first date was familiar and laughter came easy. Dennis and Darling felt an unspoken realization that this was always meant to be. It was two hearts recognizing something they had never really lost. The comfort was still there. This time, their love was different. Their Love for one another was deeper, wiser and stronger.

After that first date, Darling and Dennis were inseparable. As if the ten years apart had only strengthened what was already written for them. This time, they were sure and intentionally seasoned for one another. They understood what it meant to choose each other. One month after they reconnected Dennis proposed, Darling said, "yes" and here we are. What appeared to be a chapter closed turned out to be a story still being written. They are proof that sometimes love doesn’t end.... it simply waits.
